What is Power BI Desktop?

Power BI is used to collate and report on data. The data may be spread across Excel spreadsheets, Access or SQL Server databases, SharePoint lists or a wide variety of other sources. Power BI allows you to connect to various data sources and create reports without having to copy-and-paste between programmes.

Power BI is a relatively young programme, first released in 2015. Much of the core functionality of the programme had been previously developed for SQL Server and the “Power” add-ins for Excel, previously known as PowerQuery, PowerPivot and PowerView.

Please note...

Power BI Desktop is not a standard part of Microsoft Office, and will need to be loaded on the student machines before the course. You may need to contact your IT group.

The course uses Power BI Desktop. The on-line, Microsoft 365 version of Power BI is not suitable.

The most reliable way to contact us is via email using this link. We will endeavour to respond on the same day, but possibly after hours.

Please be aware that instant responses are unlikely. ThoughtAndMemory is a Training Company. This means that a reasonable proportion of our time is spent in front of classes, so we might not be free to take calls.
